Surf lessons: where to start

Choose an area, compare lesson formats and published prices, then confirm the details directly with your Oʻahu surf school.

You can start with three choices: an area, a lesson format and a budget. The directory brings together contact details and dated, published school information so you can ask more specific questions before booking.

  1. Choose an area to browse

Start with the lessons directory, or browse Waikīkī & Town and the North Shore. East Side and West Side providers are grouped in the island-wide directory. A business address may differ from the lesson meeting point; confirm it before planning travel.

  2. Compare the lesson format

Look at the school’s published private, semi-private or group options. Compare lesson length and any stated group or instructor details together. A format name alone does not establish the number of students in your lesson.

  3. Read the basis beside the price

Check whether the amount is per person or per lesson, the duration, and any listed fees or terms. “Basis not stated” means the supplied source did not establish it. Published amounts are dated snapshots; ask the school for the current total and cancellation terms.

  4. Confirm the details with the school

Use the official website or phone link on a listing. Ask about the meeting point, equipment, group size and anything you need to bring. Tell the instructor your experience, swimming ability and comfort in the ocean.

Planning for a child? Read the published child-age policies. For equipment, see what operators say to bring, then confirm your own booking details.
